Grammarly Review: Is Grammarly Worth Buying?

Is a Grammarly subscription worth it?

What is the difference between Grammarly Free and Grammarly Premium?

Find out in this detailed Grammarly review written by top users .

If you’ve written a blog post before, you’ve probably overlooked a few commas and misspelled words during the proofreading process.

Grammatical errors in your blog posts are one of the quickest ways to make your readers give up and move on to other content (and sites). You can spend an hour proofreading, or even hire someone to do it for you, but the reality is that you’re only human and you make even the dumbest mistakes.

am not a native English speaker either , so I pay special attention to grammar and spelling when writing in English. So when I came across Grammarly , I immediately decided to give it a try.

I initially used the free version, which worked well despite some limitations, but in this Grammarly review, I’ll discuss the paid version so you can experience the full capabilities of Grammarly.

How Grammarly Can Help You – My Experience

Grammarly is an advanced, full-featured grammar and spelling checker that integrates with almost anything you write online.

Typing into any text editor field in WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, or email will activate the tool and underline any errors in real time.

For example, I was typing this in WordPress and as I was typing, red lines appeared under some of the text where there were obvious errors. To see the errors, I simply hovered over them to see a description and suggested corrections.

You can do this while you’re typing, or wait until you’re done. If you prefer the latter, you can find the Grammarly icon in the bottom right corner of the WordPress text editor and click on it to see all the suggested corrections for your entire post.

In the example below, I’ve chosen to check a completed essay. As you can see, Grammarly does much more than just correct spelling errors. It also offers contextual spell checking. This means it can identify commonly confused words, such as *their *with they're , or *which with *witch. These contextual errors are not detectable by traditional spell checkers.

Grammarly also checks for wordiness, incorrect use of modifiers, incorrect use of articles, passive voice, and other grammatical errors and issues.

Another cool feature is vocabulary enhancement, which provides synonyms for words that appear multiple times in the article .

Please note that Grammarly only provides suggestions and you can still decide whether to accept the changes.

Is Grammarly 100% accurate?

When you first use this tool, it’s easy to think that you should accept all of the suggestions (especially if you’re a non-native English writer).

But this may not always be the case.

As the saying goes:

  • **You have to **know the rules before you can break them.

If you feel there is nothing wrong with a phrase, sentence or word and you are sure that it does not violate basic grammar rules, then you can leave it as is.

In the example below, a correction was suggested for the phrase "on this" because that phrase has a clear point of reference in the sentence context. Since this particular phrasing is essential for my sentence to be complete, and I can be sure that I am referring to the pop-up box in the previous sentence, I can safely ignore this suggestion.

Grammarly Free vs Grammarly Premium

Grammarly offers both free and paid versions. The following table explains the differences between the two versions of Grammarly.

I recommend that you try Grammarly for free first .

From a pricing perspective, Grammarly is a great value for frequent writers. You can prepay for a year and get a Pro account for just $11.66 per month. The following table lists Grammarly Premium pricing and plans:

Conclusion: Is a Grammarly Subscription Worth It?

As writers and bloggers, we always strive to produce articles and blog posts that are as close to perfect as possible. However, no one is a "perfect" writer, and we need as much help as possible.

Grammarly makes writing easier by providing most accurate and helpful corrections that we might overlook.

While it shouldn’t dictate your writing style, Grammarly is a helpful guide to improving your writing and proofreading skills.

Grammarly Alternatives:

One of my complaints about Grammarly is that it doesn’t play well with the new WordPress Gutenberg editor. This is a new problem, and I’ve been looking for a Grammarly alternative for a long time.

In this section, I’ll share some of the best Grammarly alternatives that you might want to try.

1. Linguix:

Linguix is a modern AI-based writing assistant that works well with WordPress and Google Docs. Like Grammarly, it also offers a free Chrome extension, web app, Firefox plugin, and Microsoft Edge plugin.

I recently switched to Linguix because it works really well with WordPress. It’s growing in popularity, and you should try both Grammarly and Linguix before buying the pro version.

You can also use both tools simultaneously to produce an error-free final work.

How to Use Grammarly in Microsoft Word

If you don’t write directly in the WordPress editor, but instead use Microsoft Word or another text editing software, you can still check your text in the Grammarly dashboard.

Simply click the New button, then copy and paste the text you wish to check.

With the premium version of the app, you can also install the Grammarly add-in for Microsoft Office to use it in Word and Outlook. To do this, go to your Grammarly dashboard and click Download add-ins in the left pane.

If you are an editor reviewing an author's article, you can also access the Plagiarism .

As mentioned before, Grammarly also works with email and social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc. If you use Google Chrome, you can install the Chrome extension to use Grammarly on any text editor in your browser.

Download Grammarly for Mac

Today I was writing my new e-book and wanted to download the Grammarly Word plugin for Mac. Unfortunately, they only have the Grammarly Word plugin for Windows.

But that’s when I learned about their Mac app.

The Grammarly Mac OS app is a cloud-based desktop app, and all your documents will automatically sync with the Grammarly web app.

Their desktop application also supports drag-and-drop functionality, so you can quickly drag and drop your MS Word file (or any other text file) into the application to start proofreading and checking for plagiarism.

Once you log into the desktop app, you’ll be greeted by Grammarly’s familiar web app interface.

I recommend pinning the Grammarly icon to your Dock so you can drag and drop any document to start proofreading. If you have a large document like an e-book, you'll want to break it up into 20-page paragraphs to copy and paste.

Overall, the experience of the Grammarly desktop version is the same as the web version. However, it would be better if there was a Grammarly plug-in for the Mac version of Microsoft Word.

Currently, if you are a Mac OS user, you will enjoy the power of using Grammarly on your desktop.
