Some content can be preserved for a long time and remain relevant for years to come. This is called evergreen content, and one way to keep your content relevant is to share old posts on social media. With the right plugin, this can be done automatically from WordPress.
Luckily, I found the perfect plugin for the job, Revive Old Posts. This plugin will allow you to automatically share your WordPress posts on social media. Most plugins with this feature focus on new posts, but this one works for old posts, too.
Today, I will demonstrate how to share old posts using the Revie Old Posts plugin for WordPress.
Why Share Old Posts on Social Media
By default, WordPress promotes your newest posts by placing them at the top of your blog. This is the smartest choice; after all, new posts need some help getting views. However, it can easily bury older posts further down the list.
At this point, it depends on the amount of traffic you get from search engines.
However, you can give old posts new life if you share them with your social media followers. This is also a great technique to use for holiday-related posts. For example, it’s common to write a Christmas-related post for your blog.
As long as the post remains relevant, share it every Christmas to maximize views.
This technique is also crucial when you are updating old content. For example, if you made a WordPress tutorial using the classic editor, this will no longer be as important since most people use the Gutenberg editor nowadays.
Therefore, you need to update the post and share it on social media to get the views it deserves.
Revive Old Posts is a WordPress plugin that makes it easy to automatically share your blog posts to your social media accounts as soon as they are published. You can filter the feeds, schedule posts, track performance, and more.
The plugin is designed to help you revive old content, boost social media engagement, and drive traffic to your website. But every plugin has its pros and cons, so in this review, we’ll detail everything you need to know about the Revive Old Posts plugin. We’ll take a look at its features, settings, pricing, and more.
What features does Revive Social Posts offer?
Revive Social Posts is a feature-rich plugin that offers a lot of useful features. We’ll highlight its highlights so you can get a clear idea of what this plugin can do.
1. Social Media Automation
You might have blog posts scheduled ahead of time, but coming back to share them on social media every time can be a hassle.
If you’re looking for an easier way to automatically post your blog posts to social media, then Revive Old Posts is the plugin for you.
All you have to do is install the plugin and customize the settings. After that, when you publish a new blog post, it will automatically be shared to your connected social media accounts.
You can set the frequency of content sharing. You can also choose custom post types (new and old posts) to give old content a new lease of life.
In the Pro version, you can set the time of day and day of the week when the plugin starts sharing posts to social media . Thus, Revive Old Posts can act as a scheduling plugin, allowing you to spread out your posts throughout the week.
2. Multiple social channels
Revive Old Posts lets you connect to all popular social media platforms.
With the free plugin, you can connect to your Twitter account and Facebook page. If you want to sync your website to other platforms, you’ll need to upgrade to the premium version.
You will have access to social media networks such as Facebook Groups, Instagram, Linkedin, Tumblr, Google my Business and VK (Vkontakte).
3. Customization and Control
One of the great things about Revive Old Posts is that you can customize your feed. You’re no longer constrained by templated posts and schedules.
Once you install the plugin, you can control the minimum time between shares. Even if you publish multiple posts at once, the plugin will delay the posts, ensuring that new content is published at regular intervals, thus increasing user engagement.
You can also define the content of the header, such as post title, content, excerpt, and custom fields. You can also use taxonomies such as tags and categories to include/exclude posts.
Besides that, here are some customization options:
- Include/Exclude Post Permalinks
- URL shortener so it looks neat when shared on social media profiles
- Maximum character limit
- Add additional custom text
- Share as a picture post
4. Tags
You can choose to include or exclude hashtags from each post. The plugin allows you to select a universal hashtag for all shares. You can also set hashtags for categories, tags, and custom fields.
This will help you maximize your visibility among relevant audiences on social media.
5. Analysis and tracking
Revive Old Posts has a built-in tracker to record your publishing progress. You can access the shared log directly in the WordPress admin panel to see which posts have been published. If the log is highlighted in green, it means that the post was successfully published. If there is a problem with the automatic posting, the color will be orange or red.
In addition, the plugin integrates with Google Analytics Campaign Tracking. You can add custom UTM tags to your posts to track traffic sources and find out which posts have the highest engagement.
This will help you figure out exactly which social media platforms are driving traffic to your site. You can then make data-based decisions about shifting your focus to those platforms that are driving growth.
6. Add-ons
Revive Social has two plugins, Revive Old Posts and Revive Network. You can get the Revive Network plugin directly in your WordPress dashboard, but the Revive Old Posts plugin requires a pro subscription.
Revive Network allows you to import and share posts from any RSS feed on the web. You can share content from your favorite sites to your social media accounts to increase engagement.
While Revive Old Posts is powerful, keep in mind that this tool is primarily designed for social media sharing, boosting social media engagement, and driving traffic to your website from these channels. If you want to boost SEO, then you need a plugin like All in One SEO . It’s the best plugin for WordPress SEO and even works for WooCommerce sites.
So, is Revive Old Posts any good? Let’s take a look at how to set up this plugin.
How to Share Old Posts on Revive Social Posts
Step 1: Install Revive Old Posts
The Revive Old Posts plugin lets you share old posts across multiple social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc. This process can be automated and works for new posts as well.
It also has many other features, such as tracking the traffic brought by sharing those older posts. To accommodate newer content, you can schedule the plugin to share posts as they are published.
First, click on ‘Plugins’ and then select the ‘Add New’ option on the left admin panel.
Search for Revive Old Posts in the available search box. This will bring up other plugins that you may find useful.
Scroll down until you find the Revive Old Posts plugin, then click on the Install Now button and activate the plugin for use.
Step 2: Connect your account
This plugin is very simple to use and doesn’t take long to set up. You will need to provide your social media account information so that the plugin can automatically send posts from WordPress to the desired accounts.
On the left admin panel, click on Restore Old Posts and select the Dashboard option.
You will see a series of social media platform buttons including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, GMB and Vk. Click on the social media platform you want to use.
NOTE: The free version of this plugin only supports Facebook and Twitter.
A small window will pop up asking you to either log in with your login information or use an API key. Either option will have the same result.
You can repeat these steps to link all the social media accounts you want. After all, the plugin allows you to post on all your social media accounts at the same time.
Step 3: Setup
Once your account is linked, you can start playing around with the various settings to make sure the plugin runs the way you want it to.
Click the General Settings tab.
Here you can view the various settings provided by the plugin.
The first option is the time interval between each post by the plugin. It is very important to make sure you are not spamming your social media accounts with posts. This will drive away followers. I would personally limit it to one post per day, which means you would need to set the value to 24 hours.
Select the interval between posts.
Next, you need to select the minimum and maximum post age. These values will determine which posts the plugin will share with your visitors. You need to make sure the interval is large enough to match the age of the content on your site.
After all, a website that has been producing content for years is very different from a blog that has only been around for a few months.
The plugin allows you to share multiple posts on each social media account. By default, the value is set to 1. This means that when the interval occurs, each account will share one post. You can change this value, but I recommend leaving it at 1.
This helps avoid spam.
The rest of the settings are a series of checkboxes. Just check them one by one and choose the options that work best for your site.
Click the Save button when you are finished.
Step 4: Post Format
Next, you need to configure how your post will appear on the respective platform. Each platform has a unique set of options. I will cover the Twitter options in this example.
Click the Post Format tab.
The first option is where you need to choose which part of the post you want to share. You can choose Post Title, Content, Title and Content, or Custom Fields. I recommend the Title and Post option, but the choice is yours.
Choose the number of characters for tweets that include old posts. Remember that the character limit on Twitter is 280 characters per tweet, so you can't go over that. That said, a typical tweet is only 33 characters, so don't go over that.
You can choose to add some additional text in the box below, but keep in mind the size of the tweet. The most important option after these is to make sure Revive Old Posts (ROP) includes a link to the post.
Without links there is no point.
Once you’ve completed the rest of the settings, click on the Save Post Format button at the bottom.
NOTE: If you are interested in reposting old posts using Facebook, the process is very similar to Twitter, however, Facebook has more Facebook-specific options.
Step 5: Enable Sharing
You can explore the other tabs of this plugin, but once you are happy with the settings, you must turn on sharing. This will enable the plugin to start sending old posts to your social media accounts.
Just click the "Click to start sharing" button.
The status will change to "Shared to account" and below it, you will see a timer indicating when the next social share will be. It should start 20 seconds after activation. So you may need to time it correctly.
Congratulations on learning how to use the Revive Old Posts plugin to republish old posts on Facebook, Twitter, and various other social media platforms.
The Pro version allows you to add multiple Twitter accounts and automatically share featured images with your posts. Adding images to your shares will enhance the reach of your shared content.
Note: If you are running a woo-commerce site, you should get the pro version to take full advantage of it.
Please let me know what other methods you use to automatically post WordPress content on social media sites. If you find this plugin useful, please consider sharing it on Facebook and Twitter.
