Have you heard of the LinkWhisper WordPress plugin?
If you haven’t, you might be missing out on an opportunity to improve your WordPress blog’s internal linking structure.
Today, in this Linkwhisper review, you will learn all about this upcoming and popular WordPress internal link management plugin.
Everyone knows that internal linking is a great technique to improve WordPress SEO. SidelinePlay and Wikipedia are great examples.
Today, you'll learn how to replicate an aspect of SidelinePlay and Wikipedia's SEO strategy on your website.
But before that... let's get the basics out of the way:
What is LinkWhisper WordPress Plugin:
LinkWhisper is a popular WordPress link management plugin that helps improve WordPress SEO. It utilizes an SEO technique called “internal link SEO” to pass SEO link juice from one page to another. It also helps search engine bots crawl your website efficiently.
LinkWhisper makes it very easy to analyze your entire WordPress site and suggest new internal links to create. It also helps fix cannibalization that may have occurred due to poor anchor text linking .
The plugin was developed by Spencer Haws, who is also the man behind Longtailpro. The plugin is adding new features at a rapid pace, and based on my interactions with Spencer, his goal is to make it the best WordPress internal linking plugin .
There are many more features and benefits to using the LinkWhisper WordPress plugin, which you and I will explore in the subsequent parts of this article.
Link Whisper plugin benefits and features:
Here are some must-know features of Link Whisper:
1. Automatically provide link suggestions while typing:
This is the primary feature that makes the LinkWhisper plugin worth the money. Here’s how LinkWhisper suggested links work:
When you write or edit a post, the plugin will automatically suggest which post you should link to on your website.
You have full control over which anchor text to use for your links, and the whole process is very smooth. This was the first feature that prompted me to try this plugin, and prompted me to write a detailed LinkWhisper review for you.
Another important thing to note here is that you can choose the option to display link suggestions within the categories. I prefer using this most of the time to make the links more contextually relevant.
2. Internal Links Dashboard:
LinkWhisper provides you with a dashboard where you can analyze the internal and external links for any article on your website. This is the best place to start using LinkWhisper to improve your internal links as well as add external links. (Learn how outbound links help SEO )
Here is a little tip:
- Find pages with no incoming internal links
- Click the + icon to add internal links to these orphan pages
This is perhaps the best way to start improving your internal linking structure.
3. Fix keyword cannibalization:
This is an indirect benefit of the LinkWhisper plugin, which can help you get rid of Google SEO penalties if done correctly.
While creating more internal links can help improve your overall SEO, using the wrong anchor text can sometimes do more harm than good.
In particular, if your site has been penalized due to “ keyword cannibalization ,” LinkWhisper can help you see which anchor texts are used to link to specific posts, and you can quickly fix bad anchor texts to improve anchor text SEO.
4. Link Whisper Settings Dashboard:
Link Whisper also provides an easy-to-use configuration option that allows you to configure options such as:
- Include/Exclude Certain Post Types
- Open link in new tab
- Exclude numbers and specific words from link suggestions
The LinkWhisper plugin also has many direct and indirect benefits, such as:
- Reduce bounce rate
- Increase average time on site
- Improve search engine crawling
- Helps you identify orphan pages on your WordPress site
etc……
Link Whisper Pricing: Is It Worth It?
LinkWhisper is reasonably priced, with a single site license costing around $67 . They offer 3 plans , with a 10-site license costing around $147, which is affordable for any agency that provides SEO services to clients. You should choose a LinkWhisper license based on the number of websites you have.
How to install and set up the Link Whisper plugin:
The Link Whisper plugin is fairly easy to use and, for the most part, it is a plug-and-play plugin.
To install Link Whisper on your website, you first need to download it to your computer. You can download Link Whisper from several sources. You can download it from your order confirmation page immediately after purchase. You can also download it from the activation email sent after your purchase is confirmed. You can also download it from the My Account page at linkwhisper.com.
When you download Link Whisper, be sure to copy your license key to your clipboard. You will need this license key later to activate Link Whisper on your website.

Install Link Whisper on your website.
After downloading Link Whisper to your computer, you can upload it to your website. To do this: Go to the WordPress administrator interface, in the "Plugins" menu item, click the "Add New Plugin" link.
There is an "Upload Plugin" button at the top of the "Add New Plugin" page. Clicking this button will open the plugin upload form.
In the plugin upload form, you will see a "Choose File" button, which will open a file browsing window. In the window, find and select the Link Whisper file you just downloaded, then click the "Open" button.
Once you’ve opened the file, click on the “Install Now” button to install the Link Whisper file on your website.
Your website will handle the rest of the file installation. Once the installation is complete, click the “Activate Plugin” button. There are still a few more steps to complete before Link Whisper is fully operational, but we’re getting close.
Activate the Link Whisper license.
Link Whisper won't actually work on your site until you enter your license key. Until then, it lies dormant, waiting to be activated.
To activate Link Whisper, first access your email and open the activation email you received when you purchased Link Whisper. The email contains a welcome message with startup information, a link to download Link Whisper, and a license key. Copy the license key from the email.
Once you’ve copied your license key, return to your site’s WordPress admin page and click on the Link Whisper menu item. This will take you to the Link Whisper licensing page.
The Link Whisper licensing page contains a form for activating your Link Whisper license. To activate your license, paste the license key copied from the activation email into the "License Key" input box and click the "Activate License" button to activate Link Whisper.
Link Whisper will let you know if the activation was successful. If there are any errors during the activation process, Link Whisper will let you know in the License Information field.
After successfully activating your license, the final step to make Link Whisper fully operational is to run a Link Scan. A scan collects data about all the links on your site, which Link Whisper needs to display reports to you and provide accurate recommendations.
Click on the Finish Installation button to go to the dashboard page and activate the scan.
On the Dashboard page, you'll see a simple form with a button to activate the initial scan. Click that button and Link Whisper will begin scanning your site's content for links. It will also take this opportunity to finish setting up some database tables needed for runtime.
The scan is fairly quick for most sites, but can take longer for larger sites. If you close the browser tab in which a scan is running, the scan will exit and will need to be restarted later.
Once the scan is complete, you will have access to the full dashboard and all the features Link Whisper has to offer.

LinkWhisper Review: Should You Buy It?
Linkwhisper is great value for money. The plugin is under rapid development and new features are added with every major release.
Since nothing is perfect, I think one feature that Linkwhisper is currently missing is an “autolinker”. This feature alone would double the value of this plugin and probably double the price as well. But for now, this is a useful WordPress SEO plugin that any mature WordPress site should use. Also, you are not locked out after using this plugin as all internal links created with this plugin will remain even after you disable or delete the plugin.
I believe this is the only link management plugin you will ever need in the future.
