6+ Tips to Promote Affiliate Links and Products

Forrest Pykes Mar 25, 2025

Here at ShoutMeLoud, I will constantly share ways you can make money blogging .

One of the most effective ways to do this is through affiliate marketing .

In affiliate marketing, you choose products related to your blog niche, create product awareness, and then when someone buys the product using your affiliate link, you earn a referral commission from it.

Note: There are other promotional networks like social media marketing and email marketing, but in this article, I will share some tips that you can use to promote affiliate links on your blog.

At the end of this article, I’ll also share a mistake most affiliate marketers make! Read on:

5 Practical Tips for Promoting Affiliate Products:

1. Write a review post:

There’s nothing better than a great review post about a product!

Review posts introduce your blog readers to the product while giving them your opinion on why they should buy the product. Here are a few things you should always keep in mind when writing a review post for your affiliate product:

  • Reviews should be honest. Most of the time, people only focus on the pros of a product without mentioning any cons. An honest review should include both sides of the product. Remember to also add product pictures and provide all the useful information about the product.
  • Write your review in a personal tone because people look for personal recommendations in review articles.
  • Choose products that you are more likely to use yourself.
  • Leverage star ratings in search engines to increase click-through rates on your reviews. Your results in the SERP will look like this:

2. Blog article promotion:

The right way to do this is to use affiliate links in your blog posts and then promote those articles. To do this, you should always write highly targeted articles .

For example, write an article about what users would search for before deciding to buy an item . Write posts based on *purchase intent *keywords .

This will increase your sales by at least 200%.

example:

  • Best [Product Name] (Online)
  • Best [Product Name] Website
  • Best [Product Name] Website
  • Best + Product Type + (Current Year).
  • Discount [product name]
  • [Product Name] Coupon
  • [Product Name] Coupon Code
  • 【Product Name】Discount
  • Buy [product name]
  • Buy [product name] online and more.

Specific post title examples:

  • Which GoPro camera should you buy for underwater filming?
  • How can I save money booking international flights to Cancun?

How-to Articles:

DIY type articles always work well for promoting affiliate products.

If your product is technical or requires instructions before use, you can write a tutorial guide on how to use it properly.

Such tutorials are not only useful, but they can also help you improve your search engine rankings . “How-to” articles always perform well on search engines .

Such tutorials are not only convenient, but they can also help you improve your search engine rankings. “How to” articles always perform well on search engines.

3. Use Twitter to Promote Affiliate Offers

Twitter is one of the top three social networking sites and a great platform to promote affiliate products and links to make money. However, you must understand the rules of the game to make Twitter a powerful tool for affiliate marketing.

An effective way to promote affiliate products or links on Twitter is to use the auto-insert feature. This feature allows you to automatically promote anything when any tweet becomes popular.

4. Use coupon code:

Believe it or not, saving money is always the biggest marketing incentive. Whenever a customer buys a product and sees a coupon box, he searches for "product name + coupon" and then uses the generated coupon code, and you can still get a handsome sales commission.

Remember, as an affiliate marketer, your goal is not just to share coupons, but to get customers to click on your affiliate link , otherwise the sale will not be counted towards your sales. (There are exceptions to some affiliate programs where coupons are counted as sales.)

You can also consider writing a monthly blog post about coupon codes. (Example: Web hosting coupon codes for January 2025) etc.

If you notice various coupon websites, they always ask you to "click to view coupons", "click to enter the merchant website", etc. The reason for this is to delete cookies. Here is a picture for reference:

5. Use featured posts:

Whether it’s a review post or a coupon code post, your goal is to get more views on these posts. In addition to on-page SEO , you should also feature such posts to increase their visibility.

There’s a handy feature in WordPress that allows you to stick any blog post on your blog’s homepage. Here’s how:

In the Edit Post section, click Visibility and then put a check next to Stick this post to the front page. I’ve tried a few pillar posts on ShoutMeLoud and it really grew my readership.

6. Use banners in the sidebar :

Banner ads play a huge role when it comes to getting targeted organic traffic to your blog. For me, a big portion of conversions come from banner clicks. Prominent banner ad placement is a worthwhile task. A common mistake many of us make is adding too many banner ads, which only confuses the readers. To avoid this problem, follow this one rule of thumb:

Never place banner ads for similar products on the sidebar: The purpose of a banner ad is to recommend a product. If there are multiple similar products, readers may get confused when it comes to making a purchase.

It is a good idea to place products related to a specific niche within that specific niche.

For example, in a blog post about WordPress tips, you can place banner ads for themes, plugins, hosting, services, and more.

If you have a diversified blog, you should consider using the WP Advanced Ads plugin to manage your ads.

This plugin will help you to display ads based on categories and geography. You can also do A/B testing of different banners.

Bonus Tip 1: Use Sticky ads plugin to stick ads in your WordPress sidebar. It’s a free plugin.

Bonus Tip 2: When running ads, link directly to the website, not to a review post. A big mistake many affiliate marketers make is that they try to link their ads to their review posts or other internal posts.

This is wrong because product landing pages are always optimized for higher conversions and will obviously be better optimized than your own review posts. In the past year, I started linking directly to product landing pages instead of my review posts and it caused my conversion rates to skyrocket.

Here are new affiliate link promotion ideas that will work in 2024-2025
